Truss Bridge Rehabilitation Project
MCAS Cherry Point, NC
Project Description:
The 105-foot Truss Bridge rehabilitation project at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point involved a comprehensive series of steps aimed at restoring and upgrading the existing structure. The project began with the removal of the aluminum plank decking and demolition of the bridge components. The end ramps were unbolted and stored on-site, followed by the detachment of the bridge from its foundations. The bridge was then lifted by a 600 to crane and stored securely on timber cribbing. A survey of the existing anchor bolt locations was conducted, and the old anchor bolts, base plates, and foundations were demolished. The base bearing plate was salvaged and welded to a new base plate. The entire bridge was cleaned using a non-sand media blasting method and repainted with an epoxy primer, epoxy midcoat, and a polyurethane topcoat for enhanced durability. New foundations were constructed with embedded anchor bolt. The bridge was lifted and set back on the new foundations. A new galvanized steel grating was installed to enhance the bridge’s structural integrity and safety. This project exemplified a methodical approach to both preserving and upgrading critical infrastructure at the Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point.
